Update on GE Rice: "Liberty Link" rice from Bayer (formerly Aventis) was cleared for sale by FDA in 2000, but the company was waiting for EPA permission for use of glufosinate (the active ingredient in the Liberty herbicide) on rice.

After Aventis' StarLink corn illegally contaminated much of the US corn supply,and fearing that GE rice would contaminate natural rice, Aventis buried 5 million pounds of LL rice in a Texas landfill.
