Dear Mr. McLaren,
I am a Shaw's shopper and am writing today to ask that Shaw's eliminate the use of genetically engineered (GE) ingredients in your store brand products.
Many supermarkets all over Europe have taken steps to remove GE ingredients from their product lines, and here in the United States, consumers should be equally protected by the companies we trust to supply us with safe, healthy food. Whole Foods and Wild Oats have already taken these steps, and most recently Trader Joe's, a national supermarket chain, made the commitment to source only non-genetically engineered ingredients for their store brand products. I hope that you will follow these examples and commit to eliminating GE ingredients in your store brand products.
Genetically engineered food is unregulated and untested, putting our food supply and environment at risk. The risks of GE food include introducing new food allergies and creating living pollution.
In response to the threat of GE foods, I urge Shaw's to do the right thing and remove genetically engineered ingredients from your store brand products. I do not want to eat these experimental foods. By taking steps to remove GE ingredients, you would be protecting the health of your customers and the environment.
I look forward to your written response from you on this important matter.
Sincerely,
