If you are a parent, you are probably concerned about GMOs in your children's school lunch. Fortunately, even a small group of concerned parents can have an impact on school policies around food and health.
Find out when school board meetings are held and how to get the issue of the school's food service on the agenda. Do some research before the meeting. Find out what company manages the school's cafeteria -- it might be helpful to communicate with the company before bringing the issue up to the board, so you'll know what to expect from them. Send the food service company a note requesting information about the foods they use in your child's school.
Ask them:
- Are the foods used in my child's school lunches made from genetically engineered ingredients or products derived from engineered foods?
- Will your company provide my child with food from non-GMO sources?
If you learn that the company has no policy against using GMO food,
take the issue to the school board.
